It goes without saying that this is such a boom for the north shore and our surrounding commercial real estate and residential real estate projects such as Empire Outlets, URBY, Liberty Towers, and Downtown Plaza. This new route will enable Staten Island commuters the ability to get to Downtown and to Midtown on the West side in a much shorter amount of time. The Staten Island Ferry currently has over 70,000 riders per day and the addition of the fast ferry brings with it the added convenience for so many daily commuters to the city. We have already begun to see an influx of young professionals moving to the Island to take advantage of the more attractive rental prices here on the Island and I strongly believe this will continue to help that trend in bringing more people to our North Shore.
The new route will run from St. George to Battery Park/Vesey Street and will continue to Midtown West at Pier 79/West 39thStreet. The entire trip will take approximately 35 minutes. According to The Economic Development Corporation the new route is to be launched in 2020. The total for each trip will cost $2.75. In addition, Borough President Oddo noted he is working hard to secure express trains from the South Shore to St. George and are on the table for discussion.
Having been a part of many big things on the North Shore I can tell you from experience there are always far too many people to thank that never receive the recognition. I would like to ensure I thank BP Oddo’s Chief of Staff, Jason Razefsky, EDC President, James Patchett, and Empire’s Senior VP of Marketing, Travis Noyes, who have also been instrumental in the process.
