The Department of Small Business Services announced that it has awarded a $1.54 million grant to the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce to help businesses along the Bay Street corridor. The grant will be used for beautification projects, district-wide marketing, and to organize merchants.
James Prendamano joined the Chamber just over a year ago and has been actively engaged in activities to grow the organization’s membership and clout.
Said Mr. Prendamano about the grant, “I am happy to see the City taking the initiative to assist those businesses along the Bay Street corridor that have been steadfast in their commitment to the neighborhood over the years. This grant will help them prepare for the new business coming their way as more residents move into the area. This is great news for the north shore and for all of Staten Island.”
Said Linda Baran, President & CEO of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce in the Staten Island Advance article, “The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce has proudly served our community for over 120 years from offices on Bay Street in the heart of Downtown Staten Island. From our unique vantage point, we’ve seen many changes to the neighborhood through the years. Now, with so much exciting large-scale development happening in the area, it’s poised to emerge as a major commercial hub. This investment by the city is exactly the boost needed to support its revitalization.”
Staten Island has been thrust into the spotlight with the world’s tallest Observation wheel and New York City’s first and only retail outlet center, which we are proud to be the leasing agents for, due to open next year. As a result, new businesses are choosing to locate along the Bay Street corridor and on Jersey Street in anticipation of the millions of people who will visit The New York Wheel and Empire Outlets. These new businesses are eager to get involved and are willing to do whatever it takes to improve the neighborhood.
Casandra Properties has been at the forefront of the changing north shore. We negotiated the deal between the New York City Economic Development Corporation and Iron State Development to construct Urby Staten Island at the former Navy Home Port in Stapleton and we serve as the exclusive leasing agent for Empire Outlets located at the St. George Ferry Terminal.
