Wu-Tang Clan
This rap group assembled in the early 1990’s in Staten Island. They were considered a revolutionary rap group when they emerged on the scene. The group has gone on to become one the most well known rap groups in history. They coined the term Shaolin Island in reference to Staten Island.
David Johansen
Johansen’s career budded in the late 1960’s where he was the lead singer of a Staten Island band called the Vagabond Missionaries. Later he also worked with the band The New York Dolls as a singer and songwriter.
Joan Baez
Joan Baez career starts as far back as the late 1950’s and early 60’s. Her first album, namesake Joan Baez, was released in 1960. Baez’s career stretched from the 60’s all the way to the 2000’s where she was also a civil rights activist.
Ingrid Michaelson
Michaelson’s career prevalent from the mid-2000’s onward has been all indie and folk pieces. Some of her famous songs include Girls Chase Boys, Happy, Happy Christmas Song, and The Way I Am.
Pete Davidson
Pete Davidson is a comedian and actor currently on SNL. Pete was born and raised in Staten Island and has gone on to have a successful television career on several MTV shows including Guy Code, Wild’n Out, and Saturday Night Live.
Cornelius Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt was an extremely successful businessman. One of the many things he’s known for was his innovative idea to start the first ferry system between Staten Island and Manhattan. Much of his career was devoted to developing the steamboat and railroad industry in the New York City Area.
